The Former President's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's intense desire for retribution has rapidly morphed into a structured system. Over the year since his election, the chief executive's fury and caprices have adopted the form of official policies in ways comparable to earlier dictatorial regimes. Government figures who fail to comply are promptly dismissed and substituted by devotees. Opposing figures who challenge him risk legal action, court proceedings and sanctions. Opponents have been designated under executive orders as “hostile to national interests”, “opposed to religious values” and “against free markets”, and threatened with prosecution as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Transformed

Every instance involving targeting of Trump's enemies and protection for his allies demonstrates its own distinct characteristics. Yet, regardless of their specific form, they embody manifestations of what has developed as a systematic method. Such events are anything but random. His removal of federal lawyers and FBI officials, coupled with his installation of devotees in senior roles, started swiftly, promptly assumed a regularity, and has now been shaped into a structure. DoJ and the FBI have been remade into partisan bodies under his clear orders to implement his directives. Unfairness has been turned into normal. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Management is preoccupied with punishing the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the Structure

The beginnings of this system has been exposed in the lawsuit of three previous high-ranking FBI executives filed in the ninth month in the federal court in the capital against FBI director Kash Patel and top lawyer another official for unlawful firing in “a campaign of retribution against the officials for what administration figures considered to be a inability to show proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the ex- temporary head, describes a conversation in which he “publicly admitted the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

Driscoll had attempted to protect FBI agents from being terminated, the filing alleges. Patel informed him that “White House figures” – understood by the official to be the executive branch and justice department – had ordered him to dismiss anyone who they determined as having been involved in a law enforcement case against Trump. The filing goes on: “Patel stated that he had to fire the individuals his leaders told him to fire, because his chance to keep his own position depended on the ouster of the personnel who worked on investigations involving the leader. The director explained that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau tried to incarcerate the chief in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When Driscoll advised the director he was breaking the bureau's own policies, the director reportedly said “he recognized that and he realized the character of the summary firings were probably unlawful”.

Widespread Consequences

Following the director's alleged acknowledgment to Driscoll, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and repurposed for Trump's system of punishment. Several of the FBI's top officials were dismissed or compelled to leave in the early weeks of the government. Approximately thousands of lawyers at the department have taken a “early exit scheme”. At least seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the Manhattan division, stepped down in protest over what they regarded as ideological pressure in dropping the criminal prosecution against the local official, a political figure, in as a trade for his cooperation with his federal agency arrests of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of DoJ, which oversees ethical violations, has been cut down to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: seventy percent of its employees has left. A third of executives at the justice department have left. The section implementing conservation statutes has seen departures of 50% its management.

Favors and Sanctions

Concerning the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, Danielle Sassoon, resigned in dissent against what she labeled as the “exchange”. Tom Homan, the president's “border czar,” was present as the enforcer with Adams on Fox News to declare: “Unless he complies, I will return in NYC.”. And, a former official, formerly the acting deputy attorney general and a ex-lawyer, who arranged the agreement, was awarded an judicial position, a potential pathway to the judicial branch.

The president's exemption for crimes carried out while in office, awarded by the extraordinary decision of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his criminal case over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he stands to defend his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to permit misconduct. The effect of the supreme court decision infuses his administration and the political party down to its bones. Trump v United States has spread. In the words of the former president's administration lawyer he said about the Watergate
