Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended four initial break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
